CHROMIC ANODIZE:  {Type I anodize}.  Produced in  dilute Chromic Acid solution, this anodize provides a thin film approx .0001 to .0004 thickness.  Since only 1/3 of the thickness is "growth" Chromic Anodize is an excellent choice for Close Fitting assemblies.

  • Good Corrosion Resistance (336 hrs salt spray}
  • Exellent Pre-treatment for Paints
  • Good Electrical Resistance
  • Mimimum Metal Fatigue
  • Anti-Galling for Close Fitting Assemblies

SPECIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS:  The Formation and Properties of Anodize Finishes are described in the "Controlling Document", Mil-A-8625.  All other Customer Specs follow the format and guidelines of those documents. These are Designated as:

  • Chromic Acid Anodize:          Type I
  • Sulfuric Acid Anodize:            Type II
  • Hardcoat Anodize:                  Type III
  •   EACH of these "types" are then sealed
  •             Non-Dyed Seals                Class 1
  •             Dyed Seals                        Class 2

Therefore, a "Type I, Class 1" call out specifies a part that is Chromic Anodized, Non-dyed.   NOTE: Type I Coatings are not as durable as other anodic coatings.  Due to the thin film they also are less capable of accepting dyes.
